Funeral services for Kevin Wayne Griffin, 56, of Lufkin, formerly of Wimberly, will be held Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Drew Hardin, Brother Lesly Wilkinson, Brother James Malic, and Alan Rhoden officiating. Interment will follow in Grimes Cemetery.
Kevin was born February 1, 1969 in Highlands, Texas to the late Edna (Grimes) and Bobby Griffin, and passed away Thursday, August 7, 2025 with his beloved wife, Karen, by his side. He lived a life full of laughter, generosity, and heart.
Kevin graduated from Sam Houston State University and began his career in 1991 with Harris Ranch Beef in California. After four years in the beef industry, he returned to Texas in 1995 to work alongside his brother at Jimmy Evans Co., where he found his calling in construction, moving dirt and building foundations with grit and pride. His work was more than a job; it was a testament to his strength, reliability, and dedication.
Known for being the life of the party, Kevin had a magnetic personality that made people feel instantly at ease. He was easy to love, quick to laugh, and always ready to lend a hand. His kindness was matched only by his creativity - especially in the kitchen, where he loved to cook and experiment with flavors. Fishing was his sanctuary, a place where he found peace and joy.
But of all the roles Kevin played in life, none brought him more joy or pride than being a dad. From the moment Hannah was born, she became the center of his world. He was the kind of father who got down on the floor to play, who made ordinary days feel like adventures, and who never missed a chance to make her laugh. Whether they were fishing, cooking, or just goofing around, Kevin’s love for Hannah was boundless and unwavering. He was her protector, her playmate, her biggest fan - and she was his greatest joy.
Kevin’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and generosity. He leaves behind a family who adored him and countless friends who will forever remember his warmth and wit.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Karen Hooks Griffin; his cherished daughter, Hannah Danielle Griffin and her fiancé, Kody Kohnen; stepchildren, Dessy Acosta, Paden Reed and wife Tiffany, John Hooks and wife Loryn, and Paige Hooks; grandchildren, Zoe, Jada, LJ, and Sophie Acosta, Bailee, Lainee, and Atlee Reed, and Ethan, Eli, and Elise Hooks; great-granddaughter, Penelope Amador; father, Bobby Griffin; brothers, Curtis Lawrence Griffin and wife Lisa, and Hugh Griffin; and adored aunt, Judy Grimes. Kevin was a proud uncle to Stacy and Peter Nunez, Kristin and Colton Allen, Zeke and Faithe Johnson, and Clint and Ana Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Edna and Jim Love; grandparents, Nanny and Sug Grimes, Granddaddy and Mimi Griffin; and his nephew, Joshua Lee Ortiz.
Pallbearers will be Bronson Grimes, Bobby Grimes, Alan Rhoden, Lawson Spire, Clint Johnson, and Hugh Griffin.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
