Kenneth Simms

Funeral services for Kenneth Simms, 80, of Lufkin will be held Monday, February 26, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Bobby Johnson and Brother Mark Youngblood officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow in Gann Cemetery.

Mr. Simms was born August 3, 1943 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Mary Ola (Gillikin) and Perry Edward Simms, and died Wednesday, February 21, 2024 in a local hospital.

Mr. Simms was a lifetime resident of Lufkin. He served in the U.S. Army and retired as a supervisor from Nacogdoches Sheet Metal following more than 30 years of employment. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and was a hard worker. He enjoyed hunting and mowing his yard, and loved watching old westerns. Mr. Simms was quick-witted, always ready with a joke, and everyone he knew got a nickname. He never said goodbye, only “Later”.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel (Phillips) Simms of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Kenny Bridges of Wills Point, Priscilla and Sheldon Mansfield of Dayton, and Cheryl and Elwin Lamon of Lufkin; 21 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; bonus children, Kelvin and Brandy Lamon, and Melanie and T.A. Bazor, all of Lufkin; brother, Coy Simms of Nacogdoches; sister, Connie Goodwin of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kay Simms; son, Kenneth “Will” Simms, Jr.; grandson, Cory Weisinger; brothers, Terry Simms and Jack Simms; and sisters, Sue Nerren and Virginia Kelley.

Pallbearers will be Trevor Lamon, Steven Mansfield, Brett Mansfield, Matt Morgan, Willson Simms, Braden Lamon, and Kye Bazor.

Honorary pallbearers will be Elwin Lamon, Kelvin Lamon, Kenny Bridges, Sheldon Mansfield, Kyle Bazor, and T.A. Bazor.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
