Kenneth Ray Hanks

Funeral services for Kenneth Ray Hanks, 72, of Lufkin will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Walter Prescher officiating. Interment will follow in the Sand Flat Cemetery.

Mr. Hanks was born May 9, 1945 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Ruby Nell (McAdams) and M.C. Hanks, and died Friday, December 1, 2017 in a local nursing home.

Mr. Hanks was a lifetime resident of Lufkin. He served in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War and was a Purple Heart Recipient. He owned an operated several laundromats and a car wash for more than 30 years. Mr. Hanks loved his family and enjoyed traveling, especially to the mountains in Colorado. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Janell (Pate) Hanks of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Catherine and Walter Prescher of Leakey and Julie and Josh Harris of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Aaron and Ashley Hanks of Dallas; grandsons, Ian Harris of Lufkin and Grant Hanks of Dallas; granddaughter, Margot Hanks of Dallas; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Suzanne Hanks of Monroeville, Georgia and Roy and Linda Hanks of Dayton, Tennessee; sisters and brother-in-law, Ruby Yvonne Blake of Lufkin and Carolyn and Michael Kimling of Pollok; mother-in-law, Mary Pate of Lufkin; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Billie and Fred Grunden of Jasper and Mary Helen and Pete Johnson of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; niece, Stephanie Davis; and brother-in-law, Joe Blake.

Pallbearers will be Keith Hanks, David Kimling, Waylon Blake, Josh Harris, Zach Johnson, and Coy Hise.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sand Flat Cemetery Association, c/o Carolyn Kimling, 4550 W State Highway 7, Pollok, Texas 75969.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
