Kenneth Cunigan, 93, of Lufkin died Friday, January 12, 2024 at his residence. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.
Ken was born June 29, 1930 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Albert Cunigan and Bessie (Shepherd) Cunigan.
He was raised in Kentucky and graduated from Anneville Institute. He joined the Air Force and started seeing the world. He met his wife Ruth in California and she followed him to Alaska to get married. Their Marriage Certificate is from the Territory of Alaska (before it was a State). They had 70 adventurous years together. He told numerous stories of his time in the Security Service and entertained anyone who would listen. With a twinkle in his eye his answer to “What did you do in the Air Force?” was “If I told you, I would have to kill you.” He was very proud of serving his Country and having the opportunity to see the world. He was faithful to the Lord in the Methodist Church and Emmaus Community, leading by example wherever he could.
After moving to Lufkin in 2001 he met Julie Walker and went to work at Chic fil A. Wherever he was in town, people would greet him as a best friend from his time there. It seemed everyone ‘knew that man from Chick-fil-A.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; sons, Dale Cunigan of La Pine, Oregon, Bruce Cunigan and wife Sharon of Napa, California; daughter, Denise Cunigan and husband Jim Miller of Huntington; many grandchildren; and special nieces, Anita White and Carol Peterson, who helped in his care.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
