Kelly Shumaker

Funeral services for Kelly Shumaker, 71, of Wells will be held Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Bobby Whisenant officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Wells.

Mr. Shumaker was born March 28, 1954 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Opal Virginia (Harrison) and R.M. “Pee Wee” Shumaker, and died Saturday, February 21, 2026 in a local hospice facility.

Kelly was a lifelong resident of Wells and worked as a lineman. He enjoyed hunting and most of all, he enjoyed being with people. He was a people person – he loved people and they loved him. To know Kelly was to love him! He loved life and was always happy. He loved to ride around waving and honking at everyone he saw. He had a special way of making everyone feel like they were his very best friend. Kelly loved his family and proudly went to work every day to provide for them, never complaining for a moment.

Survivors include his wife of almost 46 years, Karen Shumaker of Wells; sons, Robert Brandon Shumaker and wife Caitlin, Kelly Brett Shumaker, all of Wells; grandson, Mason Kelly Shumaker; granddaughter, Scarlett Grace Shumaker; sisters and brothers-in-law, Beverly and Doyle Vinson, Brenda and Mickey Chumley; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pee Wee and Opal Shumaker; sister, Phylis Dew; and his son who was born into Heaven, Matthew Rex Shumaker.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Hopper, Jay Don Bailey, Jason Morgan, Tanker Shumaker, Rob Robinson, and Dale Shumaker.

Honorary pallbearers will be Louis Snyder, Lloyd Townsend; and Clifton Smith.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
