Funeral services for K. E. “Cotton” Thompson, 90, of Huntington will be held Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Reverend Steve Sanders and Reverend David Hunt officiating. Interment will follow in the Fielder Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Thompson was born November 5, 1927 in Huntington, Texas to the late Hester (Jordan) and Daniel “Fred” Thompson, and died Tuesday, May 29, 2018 in Houston.
Mr. Thompson was a lifelong resident of Angelina County. During those years he served his country in the United States Army and also served as Angelina County Commissioner in the 1970’s. Through his many business ventures Cotton established numerous friends and associates. He enjoyed working with his father-in-law H.F. “Slim” Squyres at Angelina Truck and Tractor, and for over 40 years he loved visiting with customers at his store Bargains ‘R Us. Many of these customers became dear friends. Although he was a hard worker from a very early age, Cotton also loved playing 42, wood burning, genealogy, and telling a lively story. Faith played a central role in Cotton’s life and he was a member of New Life United Pentecostal Church in Huntington.
Survivors include his wife, Jackie Ray Sanders Hooper Thompson of Huntington; son, Tony Thompson of Lufkin; stepdaughters, Terri Frizzle and husband Bill of Lufkin, Cheryl Cartwright and husband Gerald of Huntington, and Michelle Hooper and husband Jesse Neese of Salem, Oregon; grandchildren, Emily Joyce Thompson, Jason Collins, Julie Singer, Johanna Johnson, Josh Lee, Christopher Frizzle, Nickalas Frizzle, Christina Akers, Justin Cartwright, Kellee Cartwright Hayes, and James Cartwright; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Joyce Squyres Thompson; son, David Ray Thompson; daughter, Debbie Marie Hight; and brothers, Fred Thompson, Jr. and Earl Thompson.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jason Collins, Josh Lee, Christopher Frizzle, Nickalas Frizzle, Justin Cartwright, James Cartwright, and Ronnie Hayes.
