Graveside services for J.W. Baker, 84, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, January 23, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Baker was born May 9, 1940 in Dickson, Tennessee to the late Hazel Mae (Jones) and James Roland Baker, and died Friday, January 17, 2025 at his residence.
Mr. Baker resided in Lufkin most of his life. He had been a driver for Great Western Trucking Company and worked as a trim carpenter in and around Lufkin for many years. Mr. Baker was proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed watching them grow. He loved to hunt and fish. Mr. Baker was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Wanda (Simmons) Baker of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Julie Horn of Port Arthur; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Craig Greer of Dickson, Tennessee, and Felicia Kelley and Robert Willmon of Lufkin; sisters, Jeanie Cryer of Livingston and Dorothy Carlton of New Caney; sisters-in-law, Nancy Baker of Lewisburg, Tennessee and Jean Baker of Houston; special cousin, Ronnie Jones of Waverly, Tennessee; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandsons, Brant Kelley and Jerry Greer; sister, Frances Mechell; brothers, Bobby Baker and Elmo Baker; and parents-in-law, E.D. and Etta Mae Simmons.
The family extends special thanks to Heart to Heart Hospice and Chloe LeBlanc for their services.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Carroway Funeral Home.
