Funeral services for Julie Renee Smith, 50, of Huntington, formerly of Lufkin, will be held Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Margaret Sowell officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Wells.

Ms. Smith was born June 2, 1974 in Lufkin, Texas where she spent most of her life, and passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 7, 2025 in Riverdale, Georgia.

Julie worked as a Registered Nurse for nearly 30 years and was only months away from completing her Nurse Practitioner degree—a milestone she worked tirelessly toward and was deeply proud of. Her compassion, warmth, and dedication touched countless lives through her years of service in healthcare.

Her bubbly, joyful spirit lit up every space she entered. Julie loved nothing more than spending time with her children, preparing their favorite meals, and curling up to watch a good movie. She had a deep love for the holidays and found so much joy in decorating her home for every occasion—Christmas, Halloween, Valentine’s Day, Easter, and more. Her creativity and festive spirit made every season feel extra special.

Julie’s legacy lives on in the love she gave, the laughter she shared, and the hearts she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Julie was a devoted sister, daughter, mother, and friend. She is survived by her loving children; Trevor Brooks, Jordan Brooks, and Trey Brooks; her twin sister, Jenn Smith; her mother and stepfather, Barbara and Pete Zapata; her stepmother, Jacquelyn Russell; and her cherished nephew, Dalton McCleskey.

Julie was preceded in death by her father, Richard Smith; and her brother, Brian Smith; both of whom she carried in her heart always.

Pallbearers will be Rodney Allen, Ryan Allen, Jeremy Berwick, Cody Fairchild, Chase Brooks, and Ty Brooks.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
