Judy Blandford

Funeral services for Judith Marie “Judy” Blandford, 78, of Apple Springs will be held Friday, March 19, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Lewis Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Bennett Cemetery in Apple Springs.

Judy was born September 4, 1942 in Springfield, Illinois to the late Garnet (Treat) and Napoleon Parton. She was raised in Springfield, Illinois by her grandparents, Oliver and Blanche Hulbert. She briefly resided in St. Peters, Missouri and returned home to her roots around 1972, where she remained until her final journey to Apple Springs, Texas in 1979. For 42 years, she stayed on her 62-acre ranch, working and tending to her variety of animals and pets until her passing Monday, March 15, 2021.

While in Texas, Judy worked for the Department of Corrections for over 30 years. She had many friends, but she especially loved her animals (horses, St. Bernard dogs, and Siamese cats). She adored ALL animals. She bred Paint and Arabian horses for many years, showing and participating in events all across Texas. Many of her horses won numerous awards and trophies, including Tex, an APHA Grand Championship stallion. Several of her horses were sold to various owners across the United States.

Survivors include her son, Brent Brockman of Springfield, Illinois; daughter, Twyla Hulskotter and husband Darren of Helotes, Texas; granddaughter, Nicole Atterberry Scalise and husband Alex of Westmont, Illinois; sisters, Linda Dambacher and husband Gary of Buffalo, Illinois and Deb Smith of Galveston, Texas; brother, Melvin Thomas, Jr. of Danville, Illinois; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Othie Parton and sister-in-law, Lorene; and aunt and uncle, Darlene and George Thomas.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Friday morning prior to the services.
