Lufkin, TX

Funeral services for Judith Maxine Gooch, 86, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Largent Cemetery.

Mrs. Gooch was born December 28, 1939 in Jal, New Mexico to the late Lillian Lucille (Mitchell) and Lester Ozroe McDonald, and died Friday, February 13, 2026 at her residence.

Mrs. Gooch was truly a firecracker of a woman, full of spunk, laughter, and a personality that could light up any room. She had a presence that drew people in, and she never blended quietly into the background. She lived boldly, loved fiercely, and brought energy wherever she went.

Family meant everything to her. She cherished time together, especially during the holidays. Christmas dinners were often her domain, and she took pride in cooking for the whole family. Her chicken and dumplings were especially memorable - comforting, hearty, and made with love. She had a way of turning ordinary gatherings into something special simply by being there.

Mrs. Gooch enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. She loved to fish, relished the occasional trip to the casino, and found quiet contentment in cross-stitching and doing word searches. A cold Dr. Pepper was rarely far from her hand. She also dearly loved her cat, Troubles, whose passing about a year ago left a space in her heart.

She will be remembered for her big spirit, her laughter, and the joy she brought to every family get-together. Judith Maxine Gooch leaves behind memories full of warmth, fun, and love, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Charlie Pharris of Huntington, and Tanya Moore and Charles Heiny of Hudson; grandchildren and spouses, Denea and Jason Matchett of Huntington, Stephen Powell of Huntington, Starla and Ray Sherman of Georgia, Billy and Bekah Moore of Mabank, and Harley Moore of Kaufman; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Billy Gooch; and sisters, Roma Woolfolk, Lillian Liles, and Gay Bassett.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Pharris, Charles Heiny, Hunter Matchett, Billy Moore, Harley Moore, Jason Matchett, and Stephen Powell.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
