Josephine Ann Boyd was a caring mother, grandmother, sister and friend who radiated light and touched the hearts of so many. She transcended this earthly life on Thursday, December 1, 2022 peacefully at home and at the age of 80.
Jo, as so many knew her, was born to Mary Teresa (Gallo) and Michael Paul Peters on November 12, 1942 in Oakland, California. She grew up in the Catholic faith in Crockett and Vallejo, California where she attended elementary school, and later became a Bookkeeper and worked for J.J. Newberry's in Alhambra, California. In 1958, she met the love of her life, Leo Boyd, in Vallejo where they were later married on February 4, 1961. They celebrated 50 beautiful years of marriage and shared 3 beautiful children.
During her children's younger years, her home became a place of safety and sanctuary for many neighborhood kids. She had a penchant for sharing memories with anyone who would listen and she was a gifted storyteller. She was also known for her uniquely selfless perspective on life. Rather than lamenting, "Why me?", she would fearlessly confront any misfortune with, "Why not me?" and navigated her journey with an unwavering compassion and gratitude that inspired almost everyone she met along the way.
Some of her favorite pastimes included writing, dice and card games with the family, attending bingo events, playing casino games when the opportunity arose, sharing recipes and being surrounded by loved ones.
Josephine is survived by son, Michael J. Boyd of Lufkin, Texas; daughter, Theresa A. Arredondo of Albuquerque, New Mexico (and wife Lorraine A. Webb); daughter, Debra L. Caple of Covina, California; granddaughter, Andrea C. Caple of Las Vegas, Nevada; grandsons, David A. Eaves of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (and wife Ashley Eaves) and Michael R. Boyd of Ottawa Lakes, Michigan; brother, Ralph F. Peters; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Leo Boyd.
