Johnnie Placker Simpson

Funeral services for Johnnie Placker Simpson, 97, of Lufkin will be held Sunday, October 26, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Trey Ainsworth officiating. Entombment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park Sunset Mausoleum.

Mrs. Simpson was born May 27, 1928 in Diboll, Texas to the late Sally (Quarles) and John Henry Placker, and died Wednesday, October 22, 2025 in Lufkin.

Johnnie, “Nanny” as she was known to so many, was a beloved mother, grandmother and friend.

She enjoyed a rich social life that included being a member of the Ladies Golf Association, The Friday Night Dinner Club, and The Garden Club. She liked to humbly brag that she was the first lady to make a hole in one at Crown Colony Golf Course. She also enjoyed camping and RVing with a large group of their friends. She was married to the Love of her life for fifty-eight years and had many dear friends that meant so much to her.

She adored her family and spent many family vacations spoiling all of them. She was generous, selfless and left a lasting impression on most people she met. She will be missed, the world has lost a true Gem.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Larry Wayne and Kim Simpson of Lufkin; granddaughters, Jennifer Harris and husband Matt, and Shannon Simpson, all of Lufkin; grandsons, Wesley Morton of Galveston and Wayne Morris of Longview; 11 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ecta Arwine; daughter, Wanda Morton Johnson; brothers, Wallace Ray Placker and Charles Placker; and sister, Margie Louise Baker.

Pallbearers will be Matt Harris, Kolton Harris, Blake Harris, Corbin Harris, Jake Williams, and Jamar Simpson.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Sunday morning prior to the services.
