John Henry Tatum Ii

Funeral services for John Henry Tatum II, 65, of Lufkin will be held Sunday, August 25, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Steve Killam officiating. Interment will follow in the Dunk Havard Cemetery.

John was born August 18, 1959 to John Henry Tatum and the late Audrey Tatum in Lufkin. He lost his courageous battle with cancer on August 21, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.

John was a 1977 graduate of Lufkin High School where he was a proud member of the Lufkin Panther Band. He received a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Stephen F. Austin State University and a Juris Doctorate from Thurgood Marshall School of Law.

He married Penny Payton on February 19, 1983. They moved back to Lufkin to join the family law firm where he practiced law for 30 years.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Penny Tatum; daughter and son-in-law, Callie and Chase Crocker; son and daughter-in-law, John and Megan Tatum; father, John Henry Tatum and JoAnn Tatum; sister, Luan Tatum; brother and sister-in-law, Scott and Shelley Tatum; grandchildren, Hank Crocker, Audrey Crocker and Cooper Tatum; along with numerous nieces, nephews, special family and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Audrey Seamans Tatum and his brother-in-law, Phil Parr.

Pallbearers will be Chase Greening, Chase Copenhaver, Ryan Rolison, Ryan Nicholas, Cody Smith, John Terry and Zach Marberry.

Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Tatum, Chase Crocker, Dan Fay, Lindsay Taylor, Doug Russell, Chris Copenhaver, Skip Buchholz, Robert Walker and Ken Faires.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon prior to the service.
