Funeral services for John L. “Johnny” Redd, 74, of Hawkins will be held Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. in the Damascus Baptist Church with Brother Lesly Wilkinson officiating. Interment will follow in the Damascus Cemetery.
John L. “Johnny” Redd, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on July 15, 1950, in Sour Lake, Texas, he was the son of Sherman “Cowboy” and Patsy Redd.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Buster Redd; his sister, Peggy DuCote; and his grandson, Logan Carroll. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his loving wife, Brenda Harris Redd; his cherished daughters, Angie Carroll, Amy Redd and Tandra Whisler. He was a proud grandfather to Ashley Collins, Madeline Whisler, Lauren Whisler and Katherine Whisler; and a doting great-grandfather to Evelyn Jane, Nora Grace and Melody Marie. He is also remembered by the mother of his children, Wanda Redd; as well as his nieces and nephews, Misty, Natalie, Charity, Sherman and their families.
John spent most of his career in construction and safety management, where his sharp mind and problem-solving skills made a lasting impact. A true craftsman, he had a knack for building and inventing, always finding ways to make things work better. His happiest moments, however, were spent outdoors. Whether hunting, fishing or simply sitting on the back porch watching the deer and birds, nature was his refuge.
When he wasn’t outside, John could often be found enjoying classic Westerns, especially Gunsmoke, or tending to his ever-growing collection of interesting treasures. He had an eye for things with a story and he valued the past as much as the future.
John’s presence, wisdom and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory will live on in the lessons he shared, the love he gave and the family he cherished.
Pallbearers will be Sherman Redd, Ethan Redd, Calvin Cavallin, Adam Stanford, Donne Harris and Michael Harris.
Honorary pallbearers will be Edgar Harris, Buck Harris, Earl Glenn Harris, Bo Stanford and Jimmy Bond.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home in Corrigan and 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the Damascus Baptist Church prior to the service.
