John David Mcguire

Graveside services with military honors for John David McGuire, 79, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the Wallace Chapel Cemetery with Pastor John Williams officiating.

Mr. McGuire was born May 26, 1945 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Daisy (Brown) and John McGuire, and died Thursday, December 26, 2024 in a local hospital.

John was a lifelong resident of Lufkin and served in the United States Army. He worked at the Foundry and Kelty’s Sawmill prior to going to work for Angelina County. He was a Heavy Equipment Operator for Precinct 1, retiring after 30 years of service. When John wasn’t working, he enjoyed hunting and gardening. He would lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it and he especially had a soft spot in his heart for babies and children. John was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Barbara McGuire of Lufkin; son, Billy Ray McGuire of Lufkin; brother, Billy McGuire and wife Linda of Hudson; sister, Martha Reynolds and husband Tommy of Pollok; brothers-in-law, Earl Buster Williams of Lufkin, Roger Wayne Williams and wife Vickie of Hudson, Johnnie Williams III and wife Regina of Rosevine; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his niece, Sherry McGuire.

Pallbearers will be Roger Wayne Williams, Johnnie Williams III, Isaac Allen, Roger Williams, Jr., Mason Williams, and Jonathon Steel.

Honorary pallbearer will be Larry Brewer.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Carroway Funeral Home.
