Memorial services for John McGinty III, 60, of Zavalla will be held Sunday, November 19, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Shady Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend Bill Lanagin officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.
Mr. McGinty was born November 24, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Carrie Bell (Bowman) and John Joseph McGinty II, and died Thursday, November 2, 2017 at his residence.
Formerly of Chicago, Illinois, Mr. McGinty had resided in Zavalla for 24 years. He was a carpenter, but was a drag racer at heart. He was known worldwide for building slot cars. Mr. McGinty enjoyed cooking, gardening and fishing. His grandchildren were his life and he loved watching them play sports. He was also known to be the best friend to dogs that found him. The members of Shady Chapel United Methodist Church were his extended family.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Lynn McGinty of Zavalla; daughter and son-in-law, Megan and Jarred White of Huntington; sons and daughter-in-law, Michael Attocchi of Chicago, Illinois and Bryan and Anna Mixon of Bourbonnais, Illinois; grandchildren, Hannah, Aiden, Nico, Alexander, Brynley, and River; sisters and brother-in-law, Jarrie and Gerald Bond of Burleson and Julie McGinty of Broaddus; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
