John Wayne Carroll

Funeral services for John Wayne Carroll, 80, of Lufkin will be held Friday, January 10, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor James McKenzie officiating. Interment will follow in the McKindree Cemetery.

Mr. Carroll was born May 4, 1944 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Edna Mae (Holiday) and Johnnie Lee Carroll, and died Monday, January 6, 2025 in a local hospice facility.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and sibling, and to all he was surrounded by. His family was always first and foremost. He had a passion for travel, fishing, woodworking, pets and animals, especially dogs and birds. He worked as a Mechanical Engineer. He was very knowledgeable in most if not all areas such as woodworking, construction and repair of anything both small and large.

He was a member of Lala Hill Baptist Church. John spent many hours and days assisting others that couldn’t help themselves. He took great joy in building and renovating houses for the less fortunate.

John’s career spanned over many years working at Lufkin Industries, TRW, Smithco, and Houston Light & Power, to name just a few. After retirement he became a bus driver for Lufkin ISD and drove the ACE bus where he befriended and mentored many school age children. He was always a huge asset and always considered a key member of every group.

John and Barbara were married for 46 years, having wed in 1974. John remarried Andrea J. Weatherford in 2021, and they resided in Lufkin, Texas.

He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

He is survived by his wife, Andrea J. Carroll; daughter and husband, Kim and Steve Carter; daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Cliff Williams; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Kim Irvin; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Kim Irvin; grandchildren, Chris and Shelly Carroll, Jennifer Carroll, Amy and Jonothan Soloman, Ryan and Katie Irvin, Erin and Travis Boles, Lauren Irvin and Keith Robertson, Serena and Justin Gammons, Barbie and Casey Timms, Brian Irvin, Jr. and Shelbie, Brent Irvin and Sherra Irvin; 23 great-grandchildren; stepdaughter, Kassydi Weatherford; brother-in-law, Jeffery Weatherford; brother-in-law, David Schultz; sister-in-law and husband, Sandra and Ellis Mackey; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Johnnie Lee Carroll, and mother, Edna Mae Carroll; wife of 46 years, Barbara Jean Carroll; son, Brian Franklin Irvin; and sister, Barbara Ann Schultz.

Pallbearers will be Ben Butler, Cliff Williams, Chris Carroll, Carson Carroll, David Schultz, and Rodney McCarty.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday afternoon prior to the services.
