Funeral services for John Buschman, 79, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Cindy Doran and Reverend Daniel Rigsby officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park in Nacogdoches.
Mr. Buschman was born March 21, 1947 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Tressie (Pittman) and John A. Buschman, and died Saturday, April 4, 2026 at his residence.
John Buschman lived a life grounded in hard work, curiosity, and a deep love for his family. He spent nearly 30 years as an electrical technician with Lufkin Industries, along with 11 years as a lab technician at Southland Paper Mill in Houston. He also served his community faithfully as president of the Hudson Water Board and as president of the union at Lufkin Industries, roles that reflected both his leadership and his strong sense of responsibility.
John found peace and meaning in the outdoors. An avid fisherman, he loved being on the water, but more than the catch, he cherished the quiet connection to nature. It was there that he felt closest to God, often reflecting on the beauty of the natural world, the workings of the planet, and humanity’s place among the stars. He had a thirst for knowledge and a thoughtful mind, and his family often turned to him for insight on life’s biggest questions; from nature and science to faith and the universe.
Above all, John was a devoted family man whose greatest treasure was the people he loved. He gave freely of his time, always present, always willing to listen or lend a hand. He enjoyed music of all kinds and had a dry, clever wit that could catch you off guard and leave you laughing. Guided by a strong moral compass, John lived with integrity and quiet strength. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 56 years, Harriette Buschman of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Jana Katherine and Todd McKinney of Humble; grandson and spouse, Jonathan Micheal and Danielle Buschman of North Carolina; granddaughters, Holly Danielle Buschman of Houston, Emily Katherine McKinney of Humble; three great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Pam Buschman, Al and Jo Buschman; sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Wayman Holiday; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, John Brent Buschman.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Buschman, Al Buschman, Wayman Holiday, James Briggs, Tristan Briggs, and Jonathan Buschman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny James, Todd McKinney, and Todd Thornton.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
