John Harold Barnes

Memorial services for John Harold Barnes, 85, of Tennessee, formerly of Lufkin, Texas, will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Fairview Baptist Church with Pastor Gene Hazell officiating.

John Harold Barnes was born March 30, 1938 and died peacefully at home on Saturday, March 9, 2024. He was born in Shackleford County, in Lueders, Texas, at home. He served in the US Marines from 1957-1959 in Twentynine Palms, California. He was called into the ministry and ordained on May 1, 1966, serving as a pastor in the Baptist Church until he was no longer physically able. He wanted to preach until he was called home. It was his life and greatest joy.

He married Annes Dolores Wills on September 3, 1957 at the age of 19 until her death September 8, 2016. He married Penny Lyons on March 17, 2018.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arvil and Oleta Barnes, and two brothers, Jack and Alex Barnes.

He was survived by his son, Bryan Todd Barnes and wife Suk Hyang; daughter, Karla Diane Morrow and husband Rodney; grandchildren, Susannah Doss, Samantha Salinas, Corrie West, and Travis West; and great-grandchildren, Kent and Grayson Doss, Elijah and Ethan Salinas, and Chandler Eidt.

Dr. Barnes will be buried in Lufkin, Texas at Pollok Cemetery.
