John Wayne "Big John" Adams

Memorial services for John Wayne Adams, 73, of Lufkin, will be held Sunday, December 23, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Timberland Drive Church of Christ with Harold Hancock and Reagan McClenny officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Interment was held in Largent Cemetery.

Mr. Adams was born October 26, 1945 in Houston, Texas, the son of the late Amma (Seal) and Bunah Hagar Adams.  He died Thursday, December 20, 2018 in a Tyler hospital.

“Big John” was a retired master police officer following 25 years of service with the Lufkin Police Department. He was a member and elder at Timberland Drive Church of Christ. Mr. Adams had lived in Lufkin for most of the past 48 years.

Mr. Adams most recently worked as a deputy for the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office and as a federal courthouse security officer for Walden Security. He enjoyed playing the guitar in the Crime Stoppers Band and later in the Campfire Boys Band for the annual Cowboy B Show.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Melody Adams of Lufkin; sons and daughters-in-law, Andy and Sheila Adams, Josh and Rachael Adams, all of Lufkin; grandsons, Andrew and Anson Adams; granddaughter, Cassidy Adams; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles N. and Phyllis Adams of Arizona, Don R. and Beverly Adams of Katy; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Honorary pallbearers are the elders of Timberland Drive Church of Christ.
