Memorial services for Joseph Taylor, 73, of Lufkin will be held Friday, April 19, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Gordon Blackman officiating.
Joe was born February 22, 1951 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Lola Will and Robert L. Taylor, and died Thursday, March 21, 2024 in Lufkin, Texas. Joe had resided in Lufkin for 73 years. He graduated from Lufkin High School in 1969, where he played football and ran track. Joe was a loving husband to his wife, Janet, for 51 years and a loving father to Matt and Beth, instilling in them the value of hard work and honesty. He loved watching Matt and Beth play sports. He loved the outdoors, especially the beach where he enjoyed fishing. Many vacations were spent at the beach with his children and then his granddaughters. At home he enjoyed gardening and bird watching.
Joe served as an Elder of First Presbyterian Church, Lufkin and was instrumental in the construction of the sanctuary and renovation of the church parlor. He was a partner of Taylor Brothers.
Survivors include wife, Janet Sisk Taylor; son, Robert Matthew Taylor and wife Kristian; daughter, Mary Elizabeth Guinn and husband Wes; granddaughters, Peyton and Ella Taylor and Caroline and Claire Guinn; brother, Robert L. Taylor and wife Mary Jo; sister-in-law, Rozanne Oxford and husband Glen; brother-in-law, Robert E. Sisk and wife Valerie; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by Robert Lancaster Taylor, Lola Will Taylor and William Gray Taylor.
Honorary pallbearers are Stephen Moore, Richard Baggett, Robert L. Taylor, Lindsay Taylor, Wesley Guinn, Benjamin Moore and John Miller, Jr. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 607 Jane Way, Lufkin, Texas 75904 or The Coalition, 1320 S. The family will welcome friends and loved ones after the service at the First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.
