Joe Bailey Sims, Jr.

A Celebration of Life for Joe Bailey Sims, Jr., 85, of Hudson will be held Saturday, January 6, 2024 in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. with the casket open. The casket will be closed at 1:30 p.m. and services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Huntington Oddfellows Cemetery.

Joe was born April 21, 1938 in Richards, Texas to the late Joe Bailey, Sr. and Oma Catherine (Morris) Sims, and died Wednesday, January 3, 2024 in Nacogdoches, Texas.

Joe worked for Central Freight Lines in Houston, Texas for a number of years prior to relocating to Lufkin (Hudson), Texas in the fall of 1977. He continued working at Central Freight until he retired on his 62nd birthday, April 21, 2000.

He spent most of his free time taking care of their property, the mowing, and their home, which he dearly loved. He was also known for mowing the church property on a regular basis, along with some elderly ladies’ yards. If you didn’t find him mowing somewhere you would likely find him snoozing in his yard swing. He loved the outdoors.

Joe and his wife, Billie Ruth, were married 59 years prior to her death in 2015. They had one son, Donnie, and two daughters, Debbie and Dana. They raised Donnie and Debbie in Houston and Dana in Hudson. He continued to live in the East Texas area until his death.

Survivors include his son, Donnie Sims and wife Melina of Canton; daughters, Debbie Skinner of Nacogdoches and Dana Nelson and husband Roland of Hudson; grandchildren, Donnie’s children: Jason Sims and Megan Langley, both of Katy, Debbie’s children: Jordan Holcomb of Hawaii and Casey Chapman of Montana, Dana’s children: Ashley Vinson and Katelynne Nelson, both of Hudson; great-grandchildren, Ashley’s children: Kayden, Addison and Austin; sister, Opal; brothers, Eddie and Tommy; aunt, Teenie; and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to both parents, Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Ruth Sims; grandson, Matt Nelson; and sister, Marcell Baker.

Pallbearers will be Keith Vinson, Kayden Vinson, Eldon Fuller, Levi Fuller, Jacob Fuller, Tres Cummings, and Jason Hawkins.
