Funeral services for Joe Mac Pittman, 85, of Zavalla will be held Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church in Zavalla with Brother Jackson Colwell and Brother Joel Hitchcock officiating. Interment will follow at Zavalla Cemetery.

Joe Mac Pittman passed away peacefully at his residence Saturday, March 4, 2023 surrounded by family and friends. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Joe Mac worked for Union 76 Oil in Nederland and retired from Lufkin Industries. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was an active member of Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church and loved his church family.

Joe Mac’s survivors include his wife of 37 years, Elmer Jewel Pittman of Zavalla; sons, Joe Wayne Pittman and wife Andi of Zavalla, Van Johnson and wife Alice of Pollok, and Bruce Johnson and wife Debbie of Zavalla; daughters, Brenda Pittman White and husband Larry of Redland, JoAnna Nelson and fiancé Jay Schroeder of Nacogdoches, Terri Runnels and husband Bruce of Lufkin, and Angela Lee of Hudson; bonus son, Wayne Evans of Lufkin; sister, Billie Kotulan of Washington State; special friend, James Barge of Zavalla; ten grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; and many loving relatives and friends.

Joe Mac was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Bascum and Lucille (Barge) Pittman; son, George “Skip” Freshour, Jr.; daughter, Murri Michele Moses; brothers, Don Easley and Ralph Pittman; and sister, Becky Johnson.

Pallbearers will be Van Johnson, Bruce Johnson, Randal Runnels, Jr., Bruce Runnels, Wayne Evans, James Barge, Douglas “Porky” Moses, and Ben Cryer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 37, Zavalla, Texas 75980.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church.
