Joe Rex Kirkes

Funeral services for Joe Rex Kirkes, 80, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Brother Wayne Roberson officiating. Graveside services will follow at 4:15 p.m. in the Treadwell Cemetery.

Mr. Kirkes was born February 21, 1942 in Carlsbad, New Mexico to the late Helen Marie (Rogers) and Reginald Harold Kirkes, and died Saturday, January 28, 2023 in a local hospital.

Mr. Kirkes served in the United States Army. When he got out, he worked in Security Services for his life career. He loved meeting and talking to new people each day. Anyone who knew him, knew he was a talker and would keep you listening to his stories, theories, and opinions on just about anything you can think of. He was a man of great faith and loved to talk about the Word of God. He loved his family and any chance to be with them, he was there. He was so selfless and would do anything for anyone. Everyone knew him as “Pops” or “Poppy”.

Survivors include his daughter, Rexann “Annie” Kirkes of Lufkin; son, Joe Dale Kirkes and wife Jessica of Lufkin; grandchildren, Rusty Edmondson and wife Joanne, Misty Edmondson, Michael Kirkes, and Darion Kirkland and husband Matt; numerous great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Kelly and husband Clutch, Darla Daniels and husband CM; brother, Gary Kirkes and wife Linda; and  numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Mr. Kirkes was preceded in death by his wife of almost 50 years, Martha Kirkes; and parents, Reginald and Helen Kirkes.

Pallbearers will be Michael Kirkes, Matt Kirkland, Christopher Posey, and Marvin Rochelle.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon prior to the service at Carroway Funeral Home in Huntington.
