Funeral services for Joe Lynn Grisham, 90, of Lufkin will be held Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Charles M. Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in the Gann Cemetery.
Mr. Grisham was born August 19, 1927 in Colmesneil, Texas to the late Lillie Mae (Sweetser) and Perry Grisham, and died Friday, January 5, 2018 in a local facility.
Mr. Grisham had resided in Lufkin for almost 80 years. He served his country in the United States Army as an MP during the occupation of Japan. He was an electrician for Southland/Champion Paper Mill for almost 39 years. He previously served as a Deacon at Herty Baptist Church and most recently attended First Baptist Lufkin.
Mr. Grisham will be remembered fondly for numerous things, but most memorable is his love of fishing, spending time outdoors collecting firewood and going on family vacations. His greatest legacy is his marriage to his wife, Pauline, his children whom he cherished, and his outgoing and adventurous spirit. He will be sorely missed.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Pauline Grisham of Lufkin; son, Joe Paul Grisham and wife Barbara of Arlington; daughter, Joan Grisham Pope and husband John of Lufkin; granddaughter, Kimberly Pierce and husband James of Arlington; grandsons, Kye Grisham and wife Carmen of Pasadena, Patrick Pope of Tyler, and Kevin Ray Pope and wife Janice of Lindale; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Pauline Calhoun of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, John Douglas Grisham; brothers, Perry Douglas Grisham and Elton Clyde Grisham; and sister, Mary Nelson.
Pallbearers will be Kye Grisham, Patrick Pope, Kevin Ray Pope, Beamon Calhoun, Thomas Nelson, and Kenneth Grisham.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Lufkin, 106 E. Bremond Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75901 or Herty Baptist Church, 2914 Atkinson Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75901.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
