Graveside services for Jo Ann Forrest Steveson, 82, of Lufkin will be held Monday, October 25, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park Brother Charles Roberts officiating.
Mrs. Steveson entered her heavenly home on October 23, 2021, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She lived a life totally devoted to her belief in God and the care of her family.
She was the sister of the late beloved Jessie Charlene Blake.
November 27, 1959 Jo married the love of her life and best friend, the late James Wilson “Bud” Steveson. The two were married 56 years, blessed with two children, Sammy Karl Steveson and Lee Ann Davis, and a very loved granddaughter, Callie Jo Holcombe. She loved the Lord as a child but was deeply called to a true heart of salvation and baptism in May 1972, at Herty Baptist Church.
From the very beginning, Jo was dedicated to her children and encouraged them to excel in life. She lived and loved life to the fullest, always willing to uniquely create special moments that will remain treasures in the hearts of her family forever.
Jo and Bud attended Denman Avenue Baptist Church faithfully and loved all of their friends there. She enjoyed working with Vacation Bible School and decorating the church. Her heart was for children, so she served as a mentor at Brandon Elementary. She was continually driven to educate herself. Jo graduated from Lufkin High School in 1957, then earned her degree in Cosmetology as well as her CNA license. She worked most of her career in the health field, later taking extra classes at Angelina College. She wasn’t afraid of an adventure and participated in the Citizen’s Police Academy ride along program in the early 1990’s.
Our mother loved to shop and travel. She was known for her fashion sense, healthy eating, appreciation for exercise and being a clean freak. The beach was her favorite place. Yearly vacations were a must and any other trips she could manage to squeeze into their busy life. Jo and Bud, with a multitude of friends, stayed very busy traveling in the United States, building for God, with the Christian Builders Association.
Jo Ann Steveson is preceded in death by her husband, James Wilson “Bud” Steveson; parents, Woodrow and Velma Lee Forrest; sister and brother-in-law, Jessie Charlene and Olen Blake; nephew, Douglas R. Blake; step-grandson, Leslie Dobbs.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Sammy and Anita Steveson of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Lee Ann and Joe Davis, Jr. of Lufkin; grandson, Jamie Steveson; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Callie Jo and Chayce Holcombe of Lufkin; step grandchildren, Heather Cooper, Jon Green, Shelly Ray, Ashley Stuenkl, and Matthew Dobbs; and a number of nephews, nieces, and other relatives.
We are incredibly proud to be her children. She taught us so much. Although there will be an empty place in our hearts, we are happy knowing she is in Heaven and our parents are together again. All is right in her world.
To everything there is a season, a time for every matter under Heaven; a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to keep, and a time to cast away. Ecclesiastes 3:1-6
