Memorial services for Jimmy West, 59, of Broaddus will be held Sunday, February 11, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Josh Campbell officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.
Mr. West was born February 9, 1958 in Concord, North Carolina to the late Doris (Lefler) and James Franklin West, and died Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at his residence.
Mr. West graduated from West Florence High School in South Carolina in 1976, and Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas in 1992. Between high school and college he worked for General Electric.
Mr. West had resided in Broaddus for 23 years and taught art at Zavalla ISD for 20 years. As a teacher he had a loving influence on a lot of kids. Mr. West was a big supporter of the Angelina Co. Youth Fair. His art students won several “Best of Show”.
Mr. West was a talented artist and musician. While living in South Carolina he was All State Cello in the Orchestra, played in the Florence Symphony, and was the drummer for the Dark Horse Band. He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Florence, South Carolina.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Jan West of Broaddus; son, Johnny Frank West of Nacogdoches; sister, Jane West of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
