Jimmy Bob Simms

Funeral services for Jimmy Bob Simms, 86, of Lufkin will be held Monday, October 29, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ben Simms, Weston Reynolds and Chaplain Rick Clark officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow in the Gann Cemetery.

Mr. Simms was born August 19, 1932 in Allentown, Texas to the late Augusta (Garrett) and Harrison Simms, and died Monday, October 22, 2018 in a local nursing home.

Mr. Simms was a lifelong resident of Lufkin. He served his country in the United States Army. He loved working in the Maintenance Department of Champion Paper Mill, which he retired from after 38 years of service. He enjoyed gardening and raising sugarcane. Mr. Simms attended Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Doris Simms of Lufkin; son, James Simms and wife Tammy of Lufkin; daughter, Jennifer Reynolds and husband Delbert of Lufkin; grandchildren, Ben Simms and wife Emily of Dallas and Weston Reynolds of Lufkin; sister, Linda Selman of Lufkin; brother, Jerry Simms and wife Jackie of Lufkin; brothers-in-law, J.D. Lawson, Jerry W. Lawson, Henry L. Lawson, Jr. and wife Betty, all of Lufkin; sisters-in-law, Louise Dearing of West Columbia and Jean Lawson of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill Simms and wife Joyce; sister, Yvonne Howell and husband Fred; brothers-in-law, W.D. Dearing, Spencer Selman, and Delmar Lawson; and sisters-in-law, Louella Lawson and Bonnie Simms.

Pallbearers will be Dwayne Howell, Larry Howell, Clayton Selman, Anthony McCarty, Keith Simms, and David Lawson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Affinity Hospice, 2708 S. Medford Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75901.

The family would like to express their appreciation for the loving care given by the staff of Affinity Hospice and Parkwood In the Pines.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
