Jimmie Sue Brown Jones

April 6, 1938 — February 7, 2024

Funeral services for Jimmie Sue Brown Jones, 85, of Lufkin will be held Sunday, February 11, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Gene Elrod, Brother Aaron Wilson, and Brother Ryan Hassell officiating. Interment will follow in the Jones Prairie Cemetery in Leggett.

Mrs. Jones was born April 6, 1938 in Houston, Texas to the late Jimmie and Virgie Brown, and died Wednesday, February 7, 2024 in Lufkin.

Jimmie graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1957. She then married her high school sweetheart, Hartzel Jones, on June 1, 1957. This union produced two daughters, three granddaughters and five great-granddaughters.

Jimmie Sue was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved her Lord and was faithful in His house until failing health made her home bound. Guided by God’s Word, she was a devoted friend, faithful listener, and trusted adviser to many women and girls. She taught Sunday School at Bauman Road Baptist Church in Houston, Texas for many years.  Her beautiful alto voice graced the choir there as well. While at Bauman Road, Jimmie and Hartzel's door was also always open to many teenagers, who lovingly called her Granny (even though she wasn't even 40 years old).

Jimmie’s devotion to her family was steadfast. She was always there when needed by her sisters, daughters, or granddaughters. She was a dedicated homemaker and class room mother for her daughters. She shared her joy for the Lord and for life as a volunteer at Parkway Hospital. She also worked for the Baptist Book Center in Houston.

After relocating to Lufkin, Texas in 2000, she enjoyed and loved on the ladies of the Joy Sunday School class at Kelty's First Baptist Church. In 2021 she moved to Pinnacle Senior Living where she made many new friends and was loved by all.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Hartzel Jones of Lufkin; daughter, Sheri McConnell of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Milton Wade; granddaughter and husband, Elizabeth and Simon Staats; granddaughter, Melanie Stella and fiancé Wesley Price; granddaughter and husband, Valerie and Eric Brevard; great-granddaughters, Marryn Stella, Evangeline Staats, Maddyn Stella, Genevieve Staats, and Felicity Brevard; sister, Virgie and husband Carl Lawson of Spring, Texas; sister, Janie and husband Charlie Jones of Magnolia, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jimmie is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Charles Hayes; and sons- in-law, Gary Myers and Larry McConnell.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Pinnacle Superior Senior Living, the staff of Hospice in the Pines and to her primary care physician, Dr. Sudheer R. Karnati.

Pallbearers will be Wesley Price, Simon Staats, Eric Brevard, Jeff Leonardos, David Lawson, and Terry Lawson.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
