Funeral services for Jim Edd Smith, 82, of Kennard will be held Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Bobby Russell and Brother Josh Currie officiating. Interment will follow in the Burketown Cemetery in Trinity County.
Mr. Smith was born February 19, 1942 in Apple Springs, Texas to the late Syble (Fitts) and Earl Smith, and died Saturday, March 9, 2024 in a nursing home in Crockett, Texas.
Jim worked in the oilfield as a driller for many years and also worked as a logger for many years. Later in life he became a rancher and that was his passion. He loved working his ranch and taking care of his cows. He was an avid hunter and hunting was a means to provide for his family. He enjoyed fishing and was known for giving everyone nicknames. Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Kennard.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Smith of Kennard; son, Jeff Smith and wife Mitzi of Apple Springs; daughter, Tammy Wunderlich and husband Harold of Grandbury; son, Darrell Smith and wife Pam of Florida; stepsons, Matthew Crowe and wife Tracy, Sam Crowe and wife Janna, all of Kennard; stepdaughter, Ruth Ann Phillips and husband J.P. of Jefferson; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, E.C. Smith, Nelson Smith, Joe Smith; and sisters, Carlean Connor and Kay Smith.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Smith, Chris Smith, Jim Smith, Jeremy Smith, Travis Smith, Bill Connor, Billy Ray Connor, and J.P. Phillips.
Honorary pallbearer will be Sam Crowe, his special caretaker.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
