Funeral services for Jewel Marie (Hayward) Arender, 82, of Lufkin will be held Sunday, May 28, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mark Newton officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mrs. Arender was born January 10, 1935 in Rosepine, Louisiana to the late Ruth (Imler) and Julius Dewie Hayward, and died Wednesday, May 24, 2017 in Lufkin.
After graduation, Mrs. Arender taught school for two years in Vernon Parish, Louisiana. She married Frank Arender from DeRidder, Louisiana in 1957. They moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana in 1958, where she continued teaching. They moved to Lufkin in 1981, where Mrs. Arender continued teaching until retiring in 1997.
After retirement she and her husband joined a travel group that took them to the Baltic countries and several other European countries. They also traveled to Australia and New Zealand. During her years of teaching, Mrs. Arender was fascinated by all these countries, never dreaming that she would be visiting many of them after retirement.
Mrs. Arender was presently spending much of her time serving as a volunteer worker and enjoying her three grandsons. She was a member of the Retired Teachers’ Association and a member of First Baptist Church Lufkin.
Survivors include her husband, Frank Arender of Lufkin; daughter, Jan Bailey of Clear Lake Shores; son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Gayla Arender of Dallas; grandsons, John Arender, Cole Bailey, and Carter Bailey; sister, Mary Martinez of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; brother and sister-in-law, John and Delores Hayward of Tacoma, Washington; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son-in-law, Brett Bailey.
Pallbearers will be Eliazar Caldera, John Hayward, Roger Parker, Cole Bailey, John McCoy, and John Arender.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
