Irene Havard Pruett

Funeral services for Jessie Irene (Havard) Myers Pruett, 98, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Jeff Robinson and Brother Randy Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.

Irene was born July 15, 1920 at home in the Prairie Grove Community of Angelina County, Texas to the late Maggie (Burris) and Richard Havard. She passed away with peace and grace on Sunday, July 22, 2018 and is now “strolling around in Heaven” with her Lord and loved ones in her Heavenly home.

Irene grew up as part of the “Greatest Generation” in the United States. She lived through the deprivation of the Great Depression and the hardships of World War II. Irene came to the Lord early in life and thereafter put God first, family second and then work. Irene’s life experiences molded her strong character and work ethic. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church.

Irene was a devoted and loving mother, her family was her pride and joy. She was renowned for her cooking and baking, especially her chicken and dressing. Spending time with family was important and she loved the holidays and family get-togethers.

Survivors include her beloved daughters, Carol Vines and Judy Myers; daughter-in-law, Barbara Myers Trapp; son, Charles Pruett, Jr. and wife Kim; cherished grandchildren and spouses, Joan and Jim Nerren, Derrick and Karen Vines, Davin and Carman Myers, David Myers, and Eric and Daria Myers; great-grandchildren and spouses, Troi Lyn and Cody Pearson, Jordyn and Grey Chumley, Hollyn McMullen, Tristan Nerren, Bryce and Andrea Vines, Casey and Kayla Vines, Rylee Vines, Ericka and Grant Switzer, Lindsey and Kyle Corey, Matthew Myers, Sarah and Bryan Grant, Alex Myers, Tanner and Lillie Myers, and Jonathan Myers; great-great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Hadlyn Pearson, Warren Chumley, Trinity and Brycen Vines, Kaydee Senette and Kayden Switzer, Micah Myers, Harper Corey, Lyla Myers and Bowie Grant; sister, Opal Wonzer; and numerous nieces and nephews, including her special nephew, Freddy Johnson, who offered a loving and invaluable service after the passing of Charles Pruett.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Pruett; sons, Gary Myers and Melton “Meck” Myers; brothers, Floyd Havard and Preston Havard; and sisters, Minnie Lee Deaton, Ola McClendon, Helen Johnson, and Gracie McClendon.

Pallbearers will be Derrick Vines, Davin Myers, David Myers, Eric Myers, Jim Nerren, and Freddy Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bryce Vines, Casey Vines, Cody Pearson, Grey Chumley, Tristan Nerren, Tanner Myers, Maddux Dezern, Alex Myers, and Kyle Corey.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Joseph House, P.O. Box 150554, Lufkin, Texas 75915.

The family would like to thank the precious staff of The Joseph House and Heart to Heart Hospice for the wonderful care of Irene.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
