Jessie Faye "Maw" Howell

July 22, 1934 — November 23, 2023

Graveside services for Jessie Faye “Maw” Howell, 89, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Ryan Chapel Cemetery with Brother D.R. McNaughton and Brother Kenneth Mayo officiating.

Jessie Faye “Maw” Howell was born July 22, 1934 in Diboll, Texas to the late Russell Lee Dykes and Mary Alberta (James) Dykes, and died Thursday, November 23, 2023 in a Lufkin hospital.

Mrs. Howell resided in Diboll for most of her life. Her later years were spent in Lufkin. She retired from Temple Inland after 25 plus years of service. She was an excellent cook, and the debate is still ongoing about how she made her famous dressing. She loved westerns, bird watching, crossword puzzles, and her family.

Her biggest role was that of the ultimate caregiver. She cared for her husband, Red, as well as his extended family through injury and illness; and took up the reins to be the main provider for her family. She demonstrated a formidable work ethic and continuously proved she could hold her own and was known for outworking those in the plant that were half her age. She has fed, clothed, housed, and rescued every one of her children and grandchildren at various points in their lives.

Survivors include her daughter, Teresa Bennett; grandchildren and their spouses, Virgil Ray Reynolds, Jr. and Laura Reynolds, Rhiannon and David Lackey, Wesley Adam Reynolds and Norma Steptoe, Robert Reynolds, and Valarie Wilcox and Rogelio Prieto, all of Lufkin; great-grandchildren, Samantha and Scheulr Shadbolt, Angel Sunday, Ireland Reynolds, Nikki Reynolds, all of Lufkin, and Riley Mack Reynolds of Huntington; sisters, Lola Bea Carter and Betty Lou Capps; and her precious great-grand-dog, Tipsy Marie.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Mack “Red” Howell; daughters, Lyndel Bosquez and Mary Howell; brother, R.L. Dykes, Jr.; and sister, Annie Nell Loftin.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to our cousin, Tiffany Chipman, for her invaluable help with her care, as well as the wonderful ICU and Hospice in the Pines nurses of CHI St. Luke’s for the tremendous care and compassion they showed us during this time. Also, to Samantha and Scheulr for the love and care they have given her and for making her smile.
