Graveside services with military honors for J.C. “Butch” Sorenson, 71, of Pollok will be held Friday, February 13, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Largent Cemetery with Brother Ken Odle officiating.
J.C. “Butch” Sorenson was born June 8, 1954 in Corpus Christi, Texas to the late Anna Laura (Bigger) and D.V. Sorenson. He passed away at his home Thursday, January 29, 2026. He grew up in Chapman Ranch, a farming community outside Corpus Christi. Later his family moved to Crockett. This is where he met and married Sandra, the love of his life. After his service in the U.S. Air Force they made Pollok their home.
Butch was a hard worker and took pride in everything he did. His proudest accomplishments were his kids, grandkids, and great-grands. He always managed to link their accomplishments to being related to him somehow. He was very sharp and quick-witted, always having an answer. He had a generous heart that did not seek recognition. Butch was quick to give his opinion and always stood up for what he believed in.
Butch was a Sorenson through and through - a bit hardheaded and did things his own way…even somehow his last day. He will be greatly missed.
He leaves behind his daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Stuart Oates of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Vicky Sorenson of Pollok; grandchildren and spouses, Colby and Ryleigh Oates, Railey and Cotye Lowrie, all of Lufkin, Jessi Sorenson of Bandera, Justin Lester and KK Kemper, Skylor Hinshaw and Steven Harris, and Breanna Brown, all of Lufkin; great-grandchildren, Josie Modisette (he called her Nosey Josie), Warren Lowrie, Blaire Oates, Jaydn Lester, and Abram “Chunky” Gonzales; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue and Jim Colley of Manhattan, Kansas, Sarilyn and Bill Harrison of Santa Clarita, California, Kathy and Ken Odle of Mesquite, and JoEllen and Billy Hardy of Huntington; sister-in-law, Susie Slaughter of Lovelady; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Lauretta Johnson of Tacoma, Washington; adopted kids/grands, Brad Wars, Willie Ashworth, Michael Hartfield, Brooke Neal, Dakota “Cowboy” Ashworth, and Addison Hartfield; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and his beloved Callie Cat.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sandra; sister, Lanette Watkins; brother, Bob Sorenson; sisters-in-law, Retha Hill and Ann Cooper; brothers-in-law, Red Watkins, Bill Priest, Gene Hill, Marshall Boyett, Ernest Cooper, Jesse Cooper, Bob Slaughter, and Jamie Murray; and nephews, TW Watkins, Jay Cooper, and Tom Boyett.
Pallbearers will be Jason Sorenson, Stuart Oates, Brad Wars, Colby Oates, Cotye Lowrie, Michael Hartfield, Justin Lester, and William Ashworth.
