A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life for Jeff Blackwood, 67, of Lufkin, will be held Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. in his beloved pasture at the family farm, as we unite, sharing stories of a life well lived. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.
Jeff was born September 4, 1956, in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Carolyn (Clanton) and Robert Alexander Blackwood, and passed away on February 23, 2024 at his residence.
Jeff served his county in the United States Air Force and retired after 20 years of service. He was an Electrical Inspector for the City of Wichita Falls, Texas for two years, and then returned to the Air Force as a civilian employee. He was Instructor Supervisor and retired as a GS-11. His loves were racing vintage motorcycles/4 wheelers and being on the river water skiing. He also had a great love for all animals. Jeff loved his family deeply, and often mentioned his greatest accomplishment in life was his two sons, and how proud he was of the men they had become.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 47 years, Marianne Blackwood; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Tiffany Blackwood of Lufkin, Texas and Taylor and Mary (aka “Marvin”) Blackwood of Mansfield, Texas; grandchildren, Elly and Jake of Lufkin, Texas, Luke and Jackson of Mansfield, Texas; his “sweet Aunt Bettye” from Peach Tree City, Georgia; sister, Jocelyn and husband John Palmer of Nunan, Georgia; sisters-in-law, Maxine Ezzell, Judy and husband Brownie Brock, all of Spanish Fort, Alabama; brothers-in-law, Butch Jackson of Mobile, Alabama and Charlie and wife Sharon Nelson of Baytown, Texas; children by choice, Chad Gilbert of Electra, Texas, Chris and wife Kandis Cozart of Wichita Falls, Texas, David and wife Cindy Jackson of Cantonment, Florida, Travis and wife Courtney Phillips of Lufkin, Texas, Scott Ross and Ben Moore, both of Lufkin, Texas; grandchildren by choice, Hannah Robinson of Burkburnett, Texas, and Gavin and Griffin Phillips, both of Lufkin, Texas; and his best friends, Sammy Spencer of Forney, Texas, Andy Verzwyvelt of Alexandria, Louisiana, Runt Phillips, Mark and wife Lisa Ward, all of Lufkin, Texas; and his loyal companion, Miss Kitty.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, W.J. and Flo Nelson; Papa Jeff Hodges; and “sweet Wanda”.
