Lufkin, TX

A celebration of life for Jeanette Jordan Dorman, 88, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John Greene officiating. Interment will follow in Berry Cemetery.

Mrs. Dorman was born May 5, 1937 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Vela Mae (Pride) and Walter Jordan, and died Saturday, February 28, 2026 in Lufkin following a brief illness.

She resided in Lufkin for most of her life graduating from Lufkin High School in 1955. She married her high school sweetheart, Taylor Dorman, on November 29, 1955, and they enjoyed 45 years of marriage until his death in 2001. Jeanette and Taylor raised their three children in Lufkin surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins galore. She and Taylor shared their love of country music with their children visiting the Grand Ole Opry numerous times. Her favorite artists included Alan Jackson, George Strait, Johnny and June Cash, Charlie Pride, and many other true country artists. Jeanette was a loyal employee at First Bank & Trust for 32 years. Her organizational skills, as well as her charming personality, contributed to her success as a valued member of the Commercial Lending Department. She formed many lifelong relationships during her tenure at the bank. Although she was a professional five days a week, she could be found sitting in a deer stand on the weekends. She shared her husband’s love of deer hunting and spent countless weekends at their deer lease in Corrigan with special friends. She was also an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and was known to become somewhat spirited while watching their games. After her retirement, Jeanette volunteered as a mentor at Brandon Elementary with the HOSTS (Help One Student to Succeed) Program where she shared her love of reading and writing with students.

While Jeanette was a wonderful mother and mother-in-law, her greatest joy was being Nana to not only her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren but to many others who were blessed to be loved by her. She loved supporting her grands at their various school functions and was ever present at their extracurricular activities and was incredibly proud of each of them. She shared her love of cooking with her family; no holiday was ever complete without Nana’s delicious chocolate pie. She made sure her recipes would be enjoyed for generations to come by providing hand-written recipe cards of her favorite dishes and desserts to her granddaughters.

Jeanette was a faithful member of Harmony Hill Baptist Church and formed meaningful companionships in her Women of Faith Life Group Sunday School Class and in her small group, Kathryn’s Life Group. She treasured the friendships that evolved from these groups. She will be remembered for her enduring love for her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, mother-in-law and father-in-law, August and Mary Dorman, and very special aunt, Thelma (Shug) Smithhart.

Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Dorman of Lufkin; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Lorraine Dorman of Cypress, and Kevin and Donna Dorman of Lufkin; grandchildren, Justin Donnell, Courtney Gorham (Josh), Clark Dorman (Julie), Mallory Dorman, Evan Dorman (Madison), Luke Dorman, Kelsey Waller (Jason), Blake Ford (Meagan), and Madison McGee (Zach); great-grandchildren, Joshua Gorham, Jr., Kendra Gorham, Skylar Gorham, Morgan Horton, Keiley Ford, Kendall Blake Ford, Kenslee McGee, Breck Waller, Lainey Waller, and Georgia Dorman (due in May); sister, Charlie Mae Mahan of Lufkin; special nephew and wife, John and Jamie Mahan of Lufkin; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Jan Robertson and Pam Johnson .
