Jean Gill Walter

Funeral services for Jean Gill Walter, 77, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Mike Wicker of Nacogdoches officiating. Interment will follow at Gann Cemetery.

Mrs. Walter was born October 2, 1947 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Beulah Mae (Dominy) and Samuel Gee Gill, and died Tuesday, August 19, 2025 in a local hospital. She had taught for 35 years, retiring from Chireno ISD. Mrs. Walter played organ and piano at Calvary Baptist Church Nacogdoches for 40 years.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Ashley Walter; grandson, William Walter; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Linda Gill; sister, Janice Gill; niece and husband, Toni and Homer McCall; and nephew and wife, Bennie and Paula Gill; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 53 years, John P. Walter; brother and sister-in-law, Clayton and Francis Gill; brother, Ray Gill; and sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Robert White.

Pallbearers will be Gary Allen, Billy Craver, Keith Weatherford, Jerry Spraggins, Troy Commander, and Robert Devillier.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kristopher McCall and Brandon McCall.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
