Jean Copeland Jayroe

Funeral services for Jean Copeland Jayroe, 91, of Lufkin will be held Monday, August 19, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jack Knox officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Jean was born April 19, 1933 in Conroe, Texas, the daughter of the late James and Mintie (Rice) Copeland and was raised by the late Eddie and Annie (Rice) Root. She died peacefully at her home in Lufkin Tuesday, August 13, 2024.

Jean was raised by her mother’s sister and her husband (Eddie and Annie Root) after her mother died in childbirth. Annie and Eddie were wonderful parents.

Jean was an active member of First Christian Church Lufkin. She graduated from Lufkin High School then went to Pineywoods Business School. She married Ray Jayroe and they had two children, Deanne and Stephen. Jean was a loving wife and mother and loved her church family as well, always giving in whatever way she could. She was a kind, caring, intelligent, and giving person, and had a great sense of humor. Jean and Ray loved to travel with friends.

She worked for Axley & Rode and also in the medical field for over 30 years. She retired from Sietz, Shelton, Kistler and Associates.

Survivors include her daughter, Deanne McGaha of Livingston; son, Stephen Jayroe of Lufkin; grandchildren, Hannah Thomas and husband Stacey of Livingston, Hunter Haley and wife Brittany of Lumberton, and Lacey Jayroe of Garland; great-grandchildren, Aspen, Ty, Tenley, Avery, and Elliott “Elli”; and her faithful caregiver, Kernnie Harris.

She was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband, Ray.

Pallbearers will be Stacy Thomas, Ty Thomas, Hunter Haley, Ernest Rowe, John Porter, and Jimmy Cassels.

Honorary pallbearers are the Medford Class at First Christian Church Lufkin.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Monday afternoon prior to the services.
