Janet Ann (Wilson) Squires

March 16, 1944 — December 28, 2024

Janet Ann (Wilson) Squires, age 80, passed away Saturday, December 28, 2024, at home in Lufkin, Texas. She was born March 16, 1944, in Ashtabula, Ohio, to Paul Milton Wilson and Pauline Ada (Wells) Wilson. She spent her youth in Phoenix, Arizona where she attended high school, then received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from The University of Arizona.

Janet married Jack David Squires in 1967 and together they raised two children. After moving to Texas, from St. Louis, Missouri, in 1969, they lived in League City, Lewisville, and Seabrook, before retiring in 2000 to Palestine. After raising her children, Janet went back to school to become a registered nurse and spent many years working and volunteering in the hospice industry. She moved to Lufkin a few years after Jack’s death to be closer to her daughter’s family. During her 10 years in Lufkin, she made many close friends through playing Mahjongg, going to the gym, attending Sunday school, and enjoying coffee and lunch around town. She also especially treasured her many dear family friends that she called “family by choice.”

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jack Scott and Lea Squires of The Woodlands, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Stephen Peikert of Sealy, Texas; grandchildren, Jack Mitchell Squires of Houston, Kara Ann (Peikert) Jones & husband Dean of New Braunfels, Addison Lea Squires of Houston, Logan Louis Peikert of New Braunfels; and one great-grandchild, Emmett Dean Jones, born a week after she passed. She is also survived by her dearest friend of over 75 years, Dede Turken of Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a brother, Gary Wilson.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin, led by Reverend Dr. Robert C. Shield, of Lufkin First United Methodist Church. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home. The family will welcome friends and loved ones during a visitation in the chapel from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 1, prior to the service, and during a reception following the service in the Carroway Family Reception Room.
