Jane Elizabeth Collmorgen Yates

Funeral services for Jane Elizabeth Collmorgen Yates, 92, of Redland will be held Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Cary Modisett officiating. Interment will follow in the Walker Cemetery.

Mrs. Yates was born September 30, 1924 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Annie Jane (Askins) and Julius Arnold Collmorgen, and died Monday, May 15, 2017 in a local nursing home.

Mrs. Yates was a lifelong resident of the Redland Community and a 1941 graduate of Redland High School. After graduating she married Walter Preston Yates, Jr. She attended Pineywoods Business College and worked at Temple Lumber Company as Arthur Temple’s secretary. She became a homemaker when her sons were born. Mrs. Yates was a lifetime member of Redland Baptist Church, where she started the church library and was the Church Librarian. She also loved singing in the choir.

Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, Charles and LaJune Yates of Huntington and John Yates of Lufkin; granddaughter, Annie Yates; great-grandchildren, Kevin Jacob, Kylie, Faith, and Presley; brother and sister-in-law, Richard, Sr. and Dorris Collmorgen of Lufkin; sister and brother-in-law, Helen and John McCarty of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter Preston Yates, Jr.; grandson, Randy Yates; and brother, Billy Collmorgen.

Pallbearers will be Richard Collmorgen, Jr., David Collmorgen, Joe Collmorgen, Frank McCarty, Jimmy McCarty, Harry Douglas, David Yates, Dennis Hughes, and James Hughes.

The family extends special thanks to the staff at Southland Nursing Home, Hospice in the Pines, and Dr. Morris Mickelson for their care of Mrs. Yates.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
