James Harold Smith

Funeral services for James Harold Smith, 84, of Apple Springs will be held Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Mike Due officiating. Interment will follow at Bennett Cemetery in Apple Springs.

Mr. Smith was born November 14, 1939 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Anna B. (Jones) and Weaver Harold Smith, and died Monday, August 19, 2024 at his residence. He was a retired college instructor of diesel mechanics and lifelong rancher.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Sue (Witt) Smith of Apple Springs; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Tiana Smith of Lufkin; daughters and son-in-law, Sharon and Andy Delgado of Nacogdoches and Shandi Porterfield of Lufkin; grandchildren and spouses, Rachel and Dean Dilbeck, Hannah Smith, Travis and Lacy Cain, Lauren Leon, Joel and Brooke Calloway, Andrew and Gabby Calloway, Shara and Geoff Will, and Colson Porterfield; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Joel Calloway, Andrew Calloway, Travis Cain, Michael Baird, Geoff Will, and Dean Dilbeck.

Honorary pallbearers will be Phil Witt, Roy Lynn Madden, Dave Saunders, Joe Mack Deason, John Thannisch, Andy Jarvis, and Garner Spring.

The family extends special thanks to Visiting Angels and Hospice in the Pines for their care of Mr. Smith.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Apple Springs Baptist Church, P.O. Box 22, Apple Springs, Texas 75926.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
