Funeral services for James Thurman Parrish, 87, of Moscow, Texas will be held Saturday, February 21, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church in Corrigan with Brother Gary Forrest officiating. Graveside service for family will be held in the Usher and Parrish Family Cemetery.
Mr. Parrish was born June 12, 1938 at home in the Center Grove Community, Texas to the late Iscomb Sherril (Wilson) and Charles Cuberson Parrish, and went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.
James Thurman graduated from Leggett High School and then went on to attend Piney Woods Business School in Lufkin, Texas. From there, he started his career as a Bookkeeper for a shipping company in Downtown Houston. James Thurman was transferred by his company to an office at the Houston Ship Channel as a Purchasing Agent where he worked for many years. James Thurman loved tinkering with cars so much he decided to make a career change and obtained a mechanic position with Caterpillar. After several years working there, he then wanted to open his own mechanic shop at his home in Spring, Texas and was very successful. In 2000, James Thurman and his late wife June retired to Moscow, Texas. As you would have it, James Thurman didn’t really retire and opened another mechanic shop at his new home and stayed quite busy. At some point, he was approached by Corrigan Funeral Home Director to work for them where he happily accepted the job and stayed with them for 17 years before truly retiring in 2025.
James Thurman was a Christian and a man of faith in Jesus Christ. He attended Spring Baptist Church where he served for many years. After moving to Moscow, he then attended and served at First Baptist Church Corrigan and at Wakefield Baptist Church briefly.
James Thurman was proudly known as Pee-Paw to his grandchildren and Uncle T to his nieces and nephews.
James Thurman lost his loving wife June after 45 years of marriage. He then found love again three years later with Gwen, a close friend of June. He and Gwen were blessed with almost seven years of marriage before his passing.
Survivors include his wife, Gwen Parrish; children, Viki Parrish Jimenez (Juan), Kenneth Parrish; daughters-in-law, Joann Parrish and Diana Steele; grandchildren, Michael Parrish (Macy), Sarah Parrish (John), Josh Parrish, Jessica Parrish Steele, Elizabeth Valdez (Hector), Stefan Jimenez (Amber), and Ian Jimenez (Anna); great-grandchildren, Blake Madeline, Sarah Ann, James Lucas, Abraham, Max, Noah, Daniel, and Mia; brother, Paul Parrish (Jeane); sister-in-law, Janice Parrish; and very special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
