James Franklin Pace, 81, of Cushing, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2026, in a hospice facility in Lufkin.
Visitation will be held Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Carroway Funeral Home in Lufkin. A graveside service with military honors will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Hancock Cemetery in Peachtree, Texas, with Brother Steve Cowart officiating. (Peachtree is a small community northwest of Jasper, off Highway 63.)
James was born on July 3, 1944, in Jasper, Texas to Wesley Parvin Pace and Kathleen Inez Smallwood Pace. He proudly served his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Army Green Berets, where he was also an instructor for the Special Forces.
Following his military service, Mr. Pace worked for the City of Nacogdoches for more than 30 years in street maintenance and construction. His work ethic and pride in service were matched only by his dedication to family and community.
James loved the outdoors, the western way of life, and sharing time with his family and friends. He was a proud member of the WT Gang, a group known for putting on cowboy gun shows and celebrating the spirit of the Old West.
He is survived by his sister, Sandra Lee Morgan of Lufkin; brother, Wesley Parvin Pace, Jr. of Kirbyville; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Kathleen Pace; brother-in-law, Bill C. Morgan; sister-in-law, Fay Pace; and niece, Morgan Elizabeth Wallace.
