Memorial services for James Monroe Hodges, 66, of Alto will be held Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Ed Held officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.
James was born November 21, 1957 in Lufkin, Texas to Ellen Ruth (Singleton) and James Curtis Hodges, and died Friday, May 3, 2024 in Huntington, Texas.
James was a graduate of Diboll High School and spent 38 years as a Welder at Lufkin Industries. He was a musician, a bass player, traveling all over East Texas with various bands, and a member of the East Texas Jamboree in Broaddus. He was always upbeat and happy – he had a great personality. He enjoyed fishing and loved spending time with family at family gatherings.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Latisha and Daryl Bivens of Huntington; granddaughter, Hailey Robertson and husband Casey of Washington DC; grandson, Daryl Bivens, Jr. of Huntington; mother, Ellen Hodges of Huntington; brothers, John Rex Hodges of Alto, David Wayne Hodges of Zavalla; sister, Nancy Hodges Hart and husband John of Hudson; along with a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Curtis Hodges; and grandparents, Curtis and Iva Hodges of Burke and Drury and Sally Singleton of Livingston.
The family would like to express special thanks to the staff at Huntington Health care and Hospice in the Pines for the loving care given to James.
