James R. "Buddy" Jones

Funeral services for James R. “Buddy” Jones, 82, of Hudson will be held Monday, May 6, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Eric Peyton and Brother Danny Bowman officiating. Interment will follow in the Gann Cemetery.

Mr. Jones was born October 27, 1936 in the Shawnee Prairie Community of Angelina County, Texas to the late Ruby (Marshall) and Chester Jones, and died Thursday, May 2, 2019 in a local hospice facility.

Mr. Jones was a lifetime resident of Angelina County. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard. Mr. Jones was a foreman at Futch Signs for 30 years, owned Jones U Name It Grocery on 103 West, and owned several rental properties. He was also a carpenter and he and his wife Mattie served in ministry with The Master’s Builders. Mr. Jones was a deacon at Keltys First Baptist Church. He enjoyed growing hay and raising cattle.

Survivors include his son, Jimmy Carroll Jones of Hudson; daughter, Angela Jones-Goodson and Robert Ward of Hudson; grandson, Jason Carroll Jones of Hudson; great-granddaughters, Jayna Laney and husband Cody, Michaela Jones, and Melissa Laney, all of Lufkin; sisters, Patricia Lange of Trinity and Mary Beth Hood of Kerens; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 57 years, Mattie Sue (Saxton) Jones; daughters, Ruby Elizabeth Jones and Conternia Lee Jones; granddaughter, Lacy Jean Sterling; and special companion, Janice Lankford.

Pallbearers will Bill Adams, Kevin Gee, Jeff Griggs, Adam Jarvis, Kirk Siber, and Robert Adams.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Keltys First Baptist Church.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
