Memorial services for James “Chuck” Morrison, 82, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jeff Bonnin officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.
Chuck was born August 17, 1941, in Tyler, Texas to the late Mae Etta (Woodall) and Charles Morrison, and died Sunday, May 26, 2024, in a local hospice facility.
Chuck grew up in Lufkin, Texas. He graduated from Hudson High School in 1960 and maintained lifelong friendships with many of his classmates. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard. He worked at W.A. DuBose & Sons for many years and retired from Texas Timberjack but continued working with his nephew Paul in many ventures.
Chuck married Jo Carole Deal in 1962 and they built a home and raised two children in Hudson. Jo Carole died in 1974 leaving Chuck to raise their children Sherri and Chris. In 1984 he lost Chris in a car accident.
Everyone that knew Chuck loved his easy-going, laid-back personality. He was affectionately called PawPaw Chuck by his grandsons and Unc or ChaChing by his nieces and nephews. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing or just riding around. He enjoyed playing games, slot machines, and reminiscing with his sister Patty. He was telling stories, joking, and flirting with his nurses until the very end. He lived life to its fullest but was ready for his heavenly home.
Survivors include his daughter, Sherri Denman of Lufkin; grandson Cory Denman, his wife Lynsi, and their sons Madix and Maverick; grandson Mason Denman, his wife Haleigh, their daughter Aidan and son Crew, all of Hudson; sister, Patricia DuBose; sister-in-law, Donna Bruce; nieces and nephews, Paul and Glenna DuBose, Lisa Looney, Bob and Barbara DuBose, Judy and Larry McWilliams, Teresa Luna, Tim Cruse; and numerous other friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jo Carole Morrison; son, Chris Morrison; sister, Linda Smith; brother-in-law Warren DuBose; and nephew, William DuBose.
The family appreciates the care he received in recent months from CHI St. Luke’s, Larkspur, and Hospice in the Pines.
