James Ray "Jim" Carswell

Funeral services for James Ray “Jim” Carswell, 52, of Wylie, formerly of Lufkin, will be held Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jennifer Steele-Lantis and Reverend Jack Knox, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Knight Cemetery. Memorial services will also be held in Dallas at a later date.

Mr. Carswell was born August 31, 1966 in Lufkin, Texas to Martha Elizabeth (Ford) and Marshall Ray Carswell, and died Sunday, November 4, 2018 at his residence.

Mr. Carswell graduated from Lufkin High School in 1985 and attended Angelina College. He was a member of the Boy Scouts and obtained the Eagle Scout Award. Mr. Carswell worked for Clark’s and First Bank & Trust East Texas before moving to Dallas in 1998. He then began working in retail. He worked for companies like Polo Ralph Lauren, Cole Hahn, Restoration Hardware, Lamps Plus, and Lee Lighting. Mr. Carswell loved animals, cooking, working, and loved to laugh. He had a great sense of humor. He was a member of Northaven United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his life partner of 21 years, Scott Stevens of Wylie; father, Ray Carswell of Lufkin; brother and sister-in-law, Jon and Jill Carswell of Montgomery; nieces, Emma Carswell and Abby Carswell; nephew, Tucker Ray Carswell; aunt and uncles, Janie and Buck Hines of Huntington and Jerry Berghauser of Richmond; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Carswell; and aunt, Nancy Berghauser.

Pallbearers will be Todd Fink, Hunter Hines, Rick Wilson, Ken Pledger, Robert Blackburn, Steve Blackburn, Paul Root, and Steve Bolt.

Mr. Carswell had a passion for animals. To honor him the family is asking for any memorial contributions be given in his honor to the Winnie Berry Animal Shelter, c/o Humane Society of Angelina County, P.O. Box 472, Lufkin, Texas 75902. Memorial contributions may also be made to Northaven United Methodist Church, 11211 Preston Road, Dallas, Texas 75230.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon prior to the services.
