James David Boyd

Funeral services for James David Boyd, 79, of Lufkin will be held Friday, April 5, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Lufkin First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Michael Rawls and Pastor Mallori Rawls officiating.

Mr. Boyd was born February 7, 1945 in Madison, Tennessee to the late Kathleen (Keese) and Timothy Terrell Boyd, and died Friday, March 29, 2024 at his residence.

Mr. Boyd had many interests. He enjoyed teaching his Sunday school class and listening to Les Feldick as he prepared his lessons. When younger, David enjoyed golf and baseball then later fishing with his grandchildren.

For many years, David directed music. One of his greatest joys was leading the N.E.T. Team as well as singing with the New Life Singers. He really loved his church which he attended faithfully, serving on the church board and supporting most programs.

David was a “people person” and usually was the life of the party with his quick wit and limitless repertoire of jokes and stories. As night came on he got rowdier and rowdier.

In more recent years he was involved in Friday night date night where 10 or 12 friends met, ate, and discussed current events and shared joys or heartaches. Saturday was a day spent searching for treasures at garage and estate sales.

David and Dovianne loved to travel, especially cruises with friends and family. He was much loved and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Dovianne Boyd of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Bryan Keith and Beverly Ann McElrath of Huntington; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly Reneè and Mike Branson of Huntington; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Kari Lynn Standley and Jami Nicole Bauer; and brothers, Tom Boyd and Tim Boyd.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Proffitt, Jimmy Rogers, Robert McGrath, Dale Wilson, Doug Standley, and Micah Moseley.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Carroway Funeral Home.
