Jackie "Tiki" Kunkel

Funeral services for Jackie “Tiki” Kunkel, 84, of Huntington will be held Thursday, January 25, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Brother Jimmy Roberts and Brother Keith Stanley officiating. Interment will follow in the Huntington Cemetery.

Mrs. Kunkel was born October 25, 1933 in Clovis, New Mexico to the late Mary Barbria (Kelly) and Robert Franklin Arnold, and died Monday, January 22, 2018 at her residence.

Mrs. Kunkel had resided in Huntington for 28 years, previously living in California for 15 years. She owned and operated the Huntington Herald Newspaper for 25 years. She was an independent, classy woman who was a strong leader and a people person. She was very giving and involved in her community. Mayor Lamar Tinsley gave her a key to the City of Huntington for her devotion and the work she did for her community. Her family was very important to her and she loved her daughters, and had an especially strong bond with Karolyn. Her grandchildren will remember her for sharing her popcorn and orange juice with them. Mrs. Kunkel was of the Christian faith.

Survivors include her daughters, Karolyn Klaes and husband Bill of Huntington, Kristyn Vrab and husband John of Plano, and Kathryn Crew of Dallas; grandchildren, Kristyn Wilkie and Josh, Kelly Klaes and Jesse Haugen, Kathryn Findlay and Shane, Stella Vrab, Liam Vrab, Jeremy Crew and Shanna, and Austin Crew; great-grandchildren, William Wilkie, Jack and Emmett Findlay, and Devon, Weston, and Eva Crew; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives; as well as her best friend and companion, Tazi, (her Pomeranian).

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 41 years, Earl Robert Kunkel; sisters, Mayme Allen, Clara Roberts, and Barbara Benn; brother, Robert Arnold; and niece and best friend, Joan McConnell.

Pallbearers will be Trent Sobolewski, Jesse Haugen, Shane Finley, and Josh Wilkie.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Klaes, Brandon Richardson, and John Vrab.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Affinity Hospice for their loving care.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Huntington.
