Jack M. Matthews, Jr.

Memorial services for Jack M. Matthews, Jr., 71, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Southside Baptist Church with Brother Randy Brown officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Mr. Matthews was born July 25, 1947 in Florida to the late Stella (Leatherwood) and Jack McCardell Matthews, Sr., and died Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at his residence.

Mr. Matthews was the Occupational Health and Safety Manager for 12 years for Temple Inland, and previously worked for OSHA and NASA. He loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed listening to all genres of live music. Mr. Matthews attended Southside Baptist Church and church was very important to him. He also enjoyed “Domino Tuesday” at the church with his church family and friends. He adored his grandchildren more than anything.

Survivors include his daughter, Melissa Hill and husband Troy of Wells; sons, Jacky Matthews and girlfriend Katrina Toth of Leander and Troy Matthews and wife Anita of Park Hill, Oklahoma; granddaughters, Markie Hale of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Morgan Matthews of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Macey Guthrie and husband Cole, Montana Matthews, all of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Kaitlyn Matthews, Addison Matthews, both of Leander, and Aaliyah Hill of Wells; grandsons, Patrick Matthews of Leander, Ryan Bennett of Wells, and Michael Chambers of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; great-grandson, Hunter Hale of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and his faithful companions, Duchess, Duke and Princess.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 44 years, Patricia Matthews in 2016; grandson, Jacob Johnson; and sister, Loretta Case.
